What is Title V?
Title V is a federal legislative initiative that aims to strengthen Hispanic-serving institutions. The objectives of this project are similar to the “Closing the Gaps” state of Texas initiative. Our project, a collaborative effort between Houston Community College and the University of Houston Downtown, targets faculty development.

I've registered to attend an event but now I cannot make it. I want to open the seat to someone else. How do I do that?
Seating for some events is limited. If you know you cannot make it, please contact Regina Wilson at 713-718-7440 or by email at Regina.Wilson@sophia.hccs.edu .

I've attended an event, when do I receive my stipend?
If you filled out a stipend form at the end of a Title V workshop and are an HCC employee, you should expect to receive your stipend one month from the day of the workshop in your paycheck. It will be noted under the “Miscellaneous” section of your pay stub.
All non-HCC employees will have to wait for a vendor number to be generated. Once this has been processed, you should expect to receive your stipend within two to three weeks. (The creation of vendor numbers can take up to a month.)
If anyone has not received a stipend one month from the date of the workshop attended, please contact Regina Wilson at 713-718-7440 or by email at Regina.Wilson@sophia.hccs.edu .

Can I get space for a web page / site with Title V
Sure! Simply go to "http://sophia.hccs.edu/titlev/c_mail_account.htm" (or click through Sophia main page -> Community -> Mail Account), and create a mail account, e.g., "john.doe". Once you are done, the personal website will be immediately available at "http://sophia.hccs.edu/~john.doe", which can be accessed via standard ftp with hostname "sophia.hccs.edu" and the same username/password as the mail account. Under ftp, there will be a folder named "public_html", which is where the actual website resides. Interested faculty members can use this webspace to hold their permament online course material without any problem.

By the way, the mail account is a fully functional pop3/imap account. To access the account via web, login at "http://sophia.hccs.edu/webmail". (Once you login, there will also be a link to the personal website. Look for the "Homepage" link at the top right corner.)
