MASTER COURSES

Definition:

As part of the objectives of the Distance Education Department and the Title V Faculty Leadership Program Grant, HCC has been sponsoring team faculty fellowships for the development of  "WebCT Master Courses." These courses are available for faculty to use in distance education as well as with web-enhanced (hybrid) courses. WebCT Master Course is a complete, fully developed course for online delivery in the Distance Education (DE) & hybrid environments providing students access to their course syllabus, communication tools (email, chat and discussions), calendar, content modules (course outlines, practice test), quizzes/assignments, student assessment tools (grades/progress), student resources, course evaluation and instructor’s resources. The Title V has funded Master Courses in Science, Math, Government and History.

Biol 1308 - Introductory Biology I

Topics include basic chemistry, cell morphology and physiology, photosynthesis and respiration, cell division, and classical and molecular genetics.

Biol 2401 - Anatomy & Physiology I
Study of the structure and function of human cells, tissues, and organ systems including integumentary skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems.

Math 1314 - College Algebra
Topics include quadratics, polynomial, rational logarithmic and exponential functions, system of equations, progression, sequences and series, matrices and determinants. A departmental final examination will be given in this course.

Courses in Progress:

Math 0312 - Intermediate Algebra

Topics include factoring techniques, radicals, algebraic fractions, complex numbers, graphing linear equations, and inequalities, quadratic equations, system of equations, graphing quadratic equations, and an introduction to functions. Emphasis is placed on algebraic techniques in order to successfully complete Math 1314 College Algebra. A departmental final examination must be passed in order to pass this course.

Biol 1322 - Basic Nutrition
Discussions focus on biological chemistry, biological processes, cellular morphology, metabolism, genetics and molecular biology.

Huma 1301 - Introduction to Humanities
An introduction to the arts and humanities. The course investigates the relationship between individual human lives and works of imagination and thought.

This website features a collaborative effort, by HCC English faculty, to create a central location for resources pertaining to the teaching of English.

The English Resource Web was designed to encourage communication and innovation among composition professors. Whether you are a veteran or a newbie, you are sure to find something you haven't seen before. The site offers everything from sample assignments to information on administrative issues.


HCC SOUTHEAST SCHOLARSHIP OF LEARNING COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

SECASTL, Southeast College Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, evolved as a result of this college's status as an affiliate of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Campus Program. Dr. Jane Cirillo and Dr. Cammy Shay from HCC-SE initiated this affiliation and act as coordinators. With fellowships from the Title V program they created a WebCT site that constitutes the central location for the HCC SECSTL Community of Practice which facilitates innovation, partnerships, student success, research and exchange of knowledge amongst faculty.

HCC Astronomy courses launched Fall 2006 in an effort to provide quality education and to assist a diverse student body to prepare for careers in various fields involving astronomy, space exploration, and related sciences.
